Meet the Editor – Hypatia

On December 1st, 2026, Charlotte Knowles and Victoria Browne (the current editors of Hypatia - A Journal of Feminist Philosophy) will visit the VUB for the event 'Meet the Editor.'
Hypatia serves as a leading platform for innovative scholarship in feminist philosophy and gender studies. The journal is highly renowned and publishes outstanding work in feminist philosophy, understood as a mode of critical inquiry grounded in diverse philosophical traditions and methodologies and characterized by a strong interdisciplinary orientation.

About the speakers and the event
Victoria Browne is reader in political philosophy at Loughborough University, specialising in feminist philosophy and politics. Prior to this, she lectured at Oxford Brookes University from 2013 to 2023 and was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Research on Women, Gender and Sexuality at Columbia University from 2017 to 2018. To date, she has published six books and numerous articles. Browne is co-editor-in-chief of Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy and a longstanding co-editor of the journal Radical Philosophy.
Charlotte Knowles is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Groningen. Her primary research areas lie in feminist philosophy and phenomenology, with a particular focus on issues of complicity, freedom, injustice, and responsibility. She has recently published work on testimony and gender-based violence, adaptive preferences, and clothing practices. Professor Knowles has been serving as co-editor-in-chief of Hypatia since 2023.
On December 1st, Browne and Knowles will be sharing their expertise with interested researchers during two different events at VUB. All events are free of charge, but registration is required. One of the events, the plenary discussion in the morning, is open to the public. The workshop in the afternoon is for pre-registered early career researchers only, with limited places available.

Preregistration and approval of abstract required
Workshop
As part of the “Meet the Editor” event with Hypatia editors Victoria Browne and Charlotte Knowles, 8 early career researchers will have the chance to pitch an idea for an article to Browne and Knowles and receive professional feedback during a workshop on the afternoon of Tuesday 1 December (13:00-15:30).
To participate in the workshop, we ask that you submit a one-page document containing the following (in English):
A short biographical note (max. 100 words)
A short motivational statement explaining why you would like to participate in the workshop and/or what you hope to gain from it (max. 150 words)
An abstract for an unpublished article on which you would like to receive feedback from Victoria Browne and Charlotte Knowles (max. 300 words)
During the workshop, each participant will have 10 minutes to pitch their idea orally (with or without slides), after which they will discuss it with Browne, Knowles, and the other workshop participants for 10 minutes. Due to time constraints, only 8 researchers will be selected to participate in the workshop.
The selection will be made by the organiser, Michiel De Proost, based on the following criteria:
