Biography
Johan Stuy is Full Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Moral Sciences. He teaches ethics, political philosophy and bioethics. His doctoral thesis (1987) discussed the philosophical anthropology of Arnold Gehlen in the context of neoconservative thought in Germany. Since his appointment as professor he (co-)supervised several research projects on bioethics, with an emphasis on the onset of human life (IVF), philosophy of politics (Leo Strauss) and anthropology of culture (Sigmund Freud). Currently he conducts research into the normative aspects of genetical practices in medicine.
