Thomas van Binsbergen

Thomas van Binsbergen is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Philosophy and Moral Sciences of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He currently investigates intersections in the political thought of Machiavelli, Spinoza and Marx. Building on a PhD dissertation entitled "Spinoza, Critique and Freedom: The Tractatus Theologico-Politicus and its Contemporary Readers", Thomas is interested in pursuing a transdisciplinary approach to moral and political philosophy, systematically accounting for history and language. Further general interests include early modern philosophy, social and democratic theory, philosophical anthropology and philosophy of art. Thomas holds degrees in philosophy, economics and teaching, as well as in baroque and modern violin.
